Home / Water Control Gates / Flap Valves
Flap valves are used as an efficient backflow prevention solution in most free discharge applications. These are used for automatic drainage from outfall structures to river , estuaries and sea and for preventing reverse flow flood / tide from river, estuary and sea to plant. These are gravity operated and need minimal water pressure for operation. The flap opens when the head in pipe or conduit exceeds 0.2 feet above the head in the receiving body of water. The flap closes when the head in the receiving body of water exceeds the head in the pipe or the conduit. When fully open the flap valves offers a very low head loss. These are offered in varied designs and various materials of construction such as Cast Iron / Ductile cast iron / Stainless steel / Super Duplex stainless steel / HDPE / Composite etc to suit the intended application.
Waterfront have designed a range of ‘next generation’ HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) Flap Valves. This range comprises lightweight, corrosion resistant flap valves which act as Non-Return Valves and check valves for the prevention of reverse flows.
The product has been designed to be flexible to suit any installation type:
Wall mounted – this basic flap valve can be easily mounted to a flat wall to prevent reverse flow.
Spigot mounted – this type of valve can be mounted for a ‘push fit’onto the end of a pipe
Tapered spigot for a ‘push fit’ into existing pipes
Flange mounted – this range of valves is suitable for fixing to flanged pipes. We can supply to metric and imperial flange sizes to both BS and EN standards.
Tidal – Our tidal range is supplied with the door at a 10 degree angle suitable for tidal water situations. Other angles are available upon request.
All our valves suit different shaped outfalls (i.e. square, round, elliptical) and are suitable for pumped outfalls with integral stroke limiters and vent pipes.

Benefits of HDPE Flap Valves
Stainless Steel Flap Valves
Waterfront design, manufacture and, if require, install stainless steel flap valves to suit exact project-specific requirements. Our Stainless Steel flap valves are suitable for use in fresh water, rivers, outfalls and surface and storm water applications.
Features
Fish Friendly Flap Valves
Waterfront design and manufacture a range of ‘fish friendly’ flap valves that are used to help the migration of fish around water flow control equipment.
Our design is based on our standard HDPE flap valve which has a smaller, upside down pet flap attached to the front; attached to this pet flap is a float on the end of a stainless steel arm. On low flows the pet flap will remain open to allow for the continued movement of fish. On higher flows the flap will close once the float reaches a vertical position.
